When Madeon skyrocketed to fame off the back of his mash-up extravaganza video ‘Pop Culture’ (currently sitting at 50 million views), no one could have predicted the global phenomenon he’d become, the artists he’d collaborate with and the wildly creative mind that sat behind the Novation Launchpad. His interview in this month’s cover feature (from page 22) is candid and fascinating in equal measure, as he reveals an artist with a meticulously clear vision that goes far beyond the studio.
Last month, we sadly lost Philippe Zdar, the French producer behind iconic records from Phoenix, Chromeo, Robyn, Kindness and Hot Chip — as well as being one half of French house heroes Cassius. We remember his long-lasting and impactful legacy from page 36.
We also met Louie Vega in Ibiza during this year’s IMS conference to get more info on his house music legacy and why continued collaboration is key to a sustained career. Former DFA Records regulars Holy Ghost! have triggered the re-launch of one of disco’s most cherished labels, as their new album lands on West End. Read about how it was made from page 56.
Elsewhere, revolutionary artist SOPHIE talks breaking boundaries (page 74), while we explore the relationship between electronic music and science fiction from page 89. Plus, we look back at the iconic ‘Music Sounds Better With You’ to find out how it changed dance music for good. See you next month!
