We had over 600,000 votes in the poll this year, and clubs from 36 different countries from almost every continent in the world placed in the Top 100 — indicative of just how global our scene is nowadays.

Every year, I hear stories from DJs or dedicated clubbers about how many of the 100 they’ve been to, and the results give illuminating indications about worldwide trends in our culture — turn to page 25 onwards for the full analysis and profiles of all the clubs in the poll, and it’s congratulations to Green Valley in Brazil for retaining the top spot this time around. Elsewhere in the issue we go to New York with ace pansexual party-night He.She.They (p76); talk to junglist S.P.Y about his new album (p83); check in with scene stalwarts David Morales (p87) and Juan Atkins (p96), and profile a wealth of new names in our Bubblers, Get To Know and feature sections. Plus there’s all yer usual on-point reviews from our team of experts, and all your other regular favourite sections.

Overshadowing this month’s output somewhat is the tragic news about Keith Flint’s suicide — it’s so sad, he touched so many lives. The response of our scene, however, has been incredible (p12) — no longer is mental health something to be ashamed to talk about. I’m no expert, but clearly it’s vital, now more than ever, that anyone having a dark time talks to somebody. Call a helpline such as the Samaritans, where there are experts on hand 24/7 to chat to anybody experiencing severe depression or suicidal thoughts. Get help. Every April, DJ Mag staff undertake the mammoth task of tabulating your votes — which span 36 nations, dozens of languages and every continent on earth — to find which venue has hit the No. 1 spot. In 2019, Brazil’s Green Valley has come out on top for the fourt time, with the venue’s impeccable programming and lush rainforest location proving irresistible to voters. The usual suspects from clubbing capitals like Berlin, Ibiza and London have all made the ranking, plus newcomers from far-flung locations in Central Asia, Australia and the Middle East. Techno originator and Detroit legend Juan Atkins also fronts this month’s jam-packed issue to discuss the return of his Cybotron project (page 22). Elsewhere we take a deep dive into what’s happening Down Under, speaking to key figures fighting to keep Australia’s festival scene alive (page 80). A dreamy trip to Envision Festival in Costa Rica is also a highlight of our April issue, as we discover why wellness and electronic music are made to work in harmony (page 82).

Finally, the sudden death of The Prodigy’s Keith Flint rocked the entire dance music community earlier this month, proving no one is immune from the insidious effects of depression and anxiety. In 2018, we're celebrating 25 years of our Top 100 DJs poll, a publicly-voted list, which represents the most popular selectors in the global scene, and has helped shaped DJ culture for over two decades. This year, Martin Garrix has once again been voted your No.1 DJ in the world, making it a whopping three in a row for the bright-eyed, happy-go-lucky Dutchman. There's been some interesting results from the rest of the poll too, with more underground artists cracking the list than previous years, including acts like Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, Marco Carola and Nina Kraviz. There's also a host of EDM regulars back in the poll once again, including international faves like Steve Aoki, R3HAB, Hardwell, David Guetta and many more.

Elsewhere in this issue, we've charted the history of house through flyer artwork in our Chicago House Heaven feature (page 108), shone a spotlight on Studio 54 with the release of a new tell-all doc (page 114) and talked health, house and happiness with DJ legend Roy Davis Jr (page 111). We've also turned our attention to this month's looming midterm elections in the States, tapping up several DJs to discuss why making your vote count has never been more vital. Finally, DJ Mag's staff writer Eoin Murray discusses how DJs who keep track IDs secret are harming the dance music community, and Canadian selector B. Traits talks some of her most influential tracks. And with that, we're off to put our feet up and pour ourselves a stiff drink, to raise a glass to another successful year of Top 100 DJs!

CHARLOTTE LUCY CIJFFERS

Commissioning Editor, DJ Mag North America

REBOOT AND RELOAD Our October issue is jam-packed with fabulous long-reads, sassy opinion pieces and fascinating tech.
